CONTROL SERVICES |
The activities of quality control services ensure that the customer's
receives quality products to maximizes market outlets. Furthermore,
the services ensure
that the customers are not at any risk as to sell and distributions.
a) SEED CERTIFICATION
Upon variety release, seed quality control services ensures that
only high quality seed of released varieties are available for us
in our farm.this is achieved through a seed certifcation system
that involves field inspectors,seed processing,seed testing,post
controlplots and post certification survey.
1.Field inspections-This is the first step in seed inpections. Before
field commences the field marchants must.
-Register the fields for inspections.
-Provide proof for of the origin of the parental materials of the
varieties registered for inspections.
-Minimum isolation distance must be observed.
Timely inspection in the fields are conducted to ensure the seed
resulting from a crop meant for seed purpose is of designated variety(Truenes
to type) and has not been contaminated genetically or physically. The
crop must be healthy and free from diseases.
2.Seed processing- seed crops of proved fields ae harvested and
proces to remove undesireable contaminations such as weeds ,inert
material, immature seeds, broken and disease seeds. The seeds are also
graded into different sizes and with protective chemicals.
3.Seed testing-laboratory is useful in determining quality factors
such as purity, germination capacity, moissture content and health
status(seed-borne diseases).
4.Labelling and sealing-Upon satisfactory fulfilment of the prscribes
requirements, every seed lot is provided with a laleb and aseal.and
must be properly labelled.
5.Post control-These are tests designed to acertain whether or not
the peceding control measures have been effective. The tests ensure
that the characters of cultivars have remained unchanged in the
process of multiplication.Under special circumstances,pre-controltests
are necessary to determine satisfactoril fulfilment of douted factor(s).
6.Post certification survey-To ensure that all is well with the
certified seed till planting time,a post certification survey is
conducted at the time of planting.Samples are taken from sed stokist
,farmers planting and at market places.these samples are planted
a longside the post controlplots and comparisons made. When complains
of low quality seed arises such claims are easily verified.
b)
FERTILIZERS AND OTHER AGROCHEMICAL QUALITY CONTROL
Quality control analysis of agriculture inputs such as fertilizers
,filiar feeds, manures and irrigation waters is undertaken.Sample
sof analysis originate from the farm .Inspections and sampling
may be undertaking at entry/outlets,bulking and at manufacturing
points.Formulation of commercial pesticides includeing the amount
of active ingridients is evaluated that we get value for money
when purchasing commercial pesticides and fertilizers.
We are alo onthe side of importance of soil analysis and the need
to ensure proper and apropriate use of fertilizers recommendations
for improved crop productionsand proper maintenancesoil fertility. In
addition to monitoring nutients cycles for optoimal plant nutrition, farm
level soil and plant tissue analysis is undertaken to ensure that
nutient deficiencies do not occur.
